Thiruvalla, Kerala
Madavana Bhaskaran Nair Padmakumar (M. B. Padmakumar) is an Indian filmmaker, actor, author, and screenwriter from Thiruvalla, Kerala. Known for his distinctive approach to independent cinema and his exploration of human vulnerability, relationships, and social realities, his creative work spans filmmaking, performance, television, and literature. His storytelling is rooted in psychological depth and a deep interest in the complexities of human experience.
Having begun his professional life in the construction sector, he gradually moved towards media and television presentation with Doordarshan, Asianet, and Kairali TV, before transitioning to screen acting across approximately fifteen Malayalam feature films including Ashwaroodan, Nivedyam, and Kutty Srank. In 2014, he made his directorial debut with My Life Partner, which won Second Best Film at the 45th Kerala State Film Awards, followed by Roopantharam (selected for the Indian Panorama at the 47th IFFI Goa, 2016), Telescope (2017), and Token Number (2025). Approaching cinema as an integrated art, Padmakumar exercises complete authorial governance across story, direction, editing, and sound.
“Cinema is not merely an optical spectacle or commercial formula; it is a mirror to human vulnerability, unseen fractures, and unspoken empathy. Whether writing, directing, or editing, my commitment has always been to stories that dare to inhabit uncomfortable truths without decorative filters.”
